A SOVEREIGN REMEDY

Prayer is the only cure for spiritual sickness
Enough people praying someone penned
Will release into the human blood stream
The mightiest medicine in the universe
For we shall be the channels though whom
God scan exert His infinite power

Imagine a world with sickness abolished
Think how much greener rolling hills would be
How lovelier the rose would seem
If sin were driven from the earth
A sovereign remedy

Prayer hath brought health to the sick
Hearing to the deaf speech to the dumb
And eyes to the blind life to the dead
Salvation to the lost and hath even driven satan
From the hearts of many brought the God Heaven
To dwell in his room

The power of prayer is not merely
Good medicine but the only medicine for a troubled age
Prayer is only power in the universe to which
The great Jehovah yields
Prayer is the sovereign remedy

Faith filled prayer indeed is mankind’s key to unlock
God’s eternal power nothing should restrain us
From drawing on this great source of power
We must ask as Hudson Taylor did
A sovereign remedy

Should we not do well to suspend
Our present operations and give ourselves
To humiliation and prayers for nothingless
Than to be filled with the Spirit and made channels
Through which He shall work with resistless power

That power is prayer which soars on high
Through Jesus to the throne
And moves the hand which moves the world
To bring salvation down
